Two nominations for AAM at the 2021 Gramophone Awards
Two recent AAM releases are among the 72 recordings shortlisted for the Gramophone Classical Music Awards: Dussek’s Messe Solemnelle (Choral) and Eccles’ Semele (Opera). Category winners will be announced on 5 October 2021.
In their citation for the Dussek, Gramophone write: ‘Dussek himself could scarcely have hoped for a performance as fine as this one, with the Academy on top form, a well-drilled choir of 20 clearly in thrall to Egarr’s infectious enthusiasm for the work and four finely matched soloists imparting plenty of personality … It’s a fascinating work and an important project, impressively recorded, exquisitely presented and enthusiastically recommended.’
And of the Eccles: ‘Pacing, not least in the expressive recitatives, is fluid and natural, the playing of the AAM strings tingles with theatrical life and the young cast is uniformly fine.’
These nominations stand alongside our selection for the shortlist of Orchestra of the Year, the only Gramophone Award to be voted for by the public. Voting closes at 8.00am on Monday 13 September. If you have not done so already, please cast your vote for AAM here.
