New Chair for AAM’s Board of Trustees

New Chair for AAM’s Board of Trustees

Paul Baumann CBE is to become Chair of Academy of Ancient Music’s Board of Trustees from September 2021. A practising church musician, Baumann has been a Board member since 2018, and takes over from Philip Jones, who has served as Chair for four years.

Baumann previously acted as Chief Financial Officer for both NHS London and NHS England and was made CBE in 2018 for services to National Health financial management. In 2018 he was also appointed as Receiver General and Chapter Clerk of Westminster Abbey, where he leads the senior management team.

He said: “As we approach our 50th anniversary in 2023, this is a very exciting time to be taking over as chair of AAM’s Board of Trustees. Our musicians are in award-winning form, and under the leadership of Laurence Cummings and John McMunn, our new Music Director and Chief Executive, we have renewed energy and a fresh vision for taking forward the commitment to excellence and innovation which has always characterised AAM’s work.”

Jones commented: “It has been an enormous privilege to lead one of the great period orchestras of the world. I am enormously proud of our staff, our players, our Board and our supporters who have brought us through some challenging years, especially recently, with flying colours. AAM is well set for a sparkling future and I look forward to continuing to support the orchestra as it reaches yet greater heights of artistic achievement.”
