Ailish Tynan soprano
Born in Ireland, Ailish Tynan received the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World "Rosenblatt Recital Prize" in 2003 and was a Young Artist for The Royal Opera from 2002–4. Her recent opera engagements include acclaimed company and role debuts of Héro (Béatrice et Bénédict) for Houston Grand Opera, Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier) for Royal Swedish Opera, Tigrane (Radamisto) for ENO, Papagena (Die Zauberflöte) for Teatro alla Scala and a return to the Royal Opera House as Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel) and Madame Cortese (Il viaggio a Reims).
A prolific concert and recording artist, Ailish works frequently with British and international orchestras. Last season she sang Mahler Symphony No.2 with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (Myung-whun Chung) and Mahler Symphony No.4 with the Prague Symphony Orchestra and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales (Jac van Steen). Other highlights include Mahler Symphony No.8 with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra under Paavo Järvi, Bella in Tippett’s A Midsummer Marriage with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Sir Andrew Davis at the BBC Proms, Mahler Symphony No.4 with the Hallé under Sir Mark Elder and Verdi Requiem at the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele under Michael Hofstetter.
Highlights of the current season include her long awaited return to Welsh National Opera as Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, a company debut with Garsington Opera as Anna in Intermezzo, recitals at the Wigmore Hall and Strauss's Vier letzte Lieder at the Royal Festival Hall.
