About this album
The Academy of Ancient Music's unrivalled catalogue of over 300 CDs has been long been lauded by listeners and critics alike, with many recordings winning Brit and Gramophone Awards.
True to Christopher Hogwood’s original vision, these releases have also broken new ground. It was AAM who recorded Mozart’s complete symphonies on period instruments for the first time. Pioneering accounts of Beethoven piano concertos and Hadyn symphonies followed and, most recently, a world-premiere recording of music by seventeenth century English composer Christopher Gibbons.
This two-disc compilation, divided between the orchestra’s core baroque and classical repertoires, is but a taste of its performance and recording accomplishments but is nevertheless brimming with the passion, clarity and conviction that has become AAM's hallmark.
