This Friday at the Barbican we mark Monteverdi's 450th birthday with a performance of a work that sounds as fresh today as did to audiences at the time. His Vespers of 1610 is regarded by many as the blueprint for choral greats such as Handel's Messiah and Bach's Passions. Stirring choruses and jazzy orchestral interludes are coupled with virile settings of biblical texts.
Rob Howarth, Louise Alder, Rowan Pierce, Charles Daniels and Thomas Hobbs join the choir and orchestra of AAM for this performance.
