2015-16 Season announced

The Academy of Ancient Music's third full season as Associate Ensemble at the Barbican Centre, London begins with the much-anticipated conclusion of our three-year Monteverdi opera cycle. Acclaimed tenor Ian Bostridge sings the title role of Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria in a semi-staged production co-directed by Alexander Oliver and Timothy Nelson, led from the harpsichord by Music Director Richard Egarr.

In October we begin a two-concert focus on our outstanding principal players. AAM leader Pavlo Beznosiuk directs a programme of rare minor-mode works from the classical age, and principal second violin Bojan Čičić directs an astonishing programme of music inspired by divine beings and the promise of the after-life.

The legacy of JS Bach and his music progeny forms another focus of the season. Richard Egarr directs a festive performance of the Christmas Oratorio in full in December 2015, we welcome back celebrated Canadian conductor Bernard Labadie in March 2016 for a programme of Lenten and Passiontide cantatas, and soprano Lucy Crowe joins legendary conductor Reinhard Goebel for an exploration of the Bach family's diverse musical legacy in June 2016.
