AAM becomes Associate Ensemble at the Barbican Centre

We are delighted to announce that the AAM is to become Associate Ensemble at the Barbican Centre, where we will perform regular concerts from September 2012.

Our Association represents an inspiring opportunity to add regular performances of baroque and classical music to the Barbican's world-class and diverse artistic mix, and to engage with new audiences with our concerts, discussions and workshops.

Our collaboration with the Barbican will enable us to continue our tradition of working with some of the world's great artists, and to put on ever more ambitious performances 'at home' in London. Our 2012-13 season begins the Association in style: alongside performances of well-loved baroque masterpieces such as JS Bach's St John Passion, we'll turn the spotlight on Handel's rarely-heard opera Imeneo; and throughout the season our Music Director Richard Egarr leads a roster of guest artists including longstanding AAM collaborators such as David Daniels and James Gilchrist as well as some of the finest emerging talent.

Angela Dixon, Head of Music at the Barbican Centre, commented: “I am delighted to be welcoming two new Associate Ensembles to the Barbican family: both the Academy of Ancient Music and Britten Sinfonia have built their reputations on excellence and innovation and these partnership will open up many opportunities. AAM have a history of inspirational performances at the Barbican and we are in the enviable position of being able to increase their number. They have a strong team and their collaborative nature makes the artistic possibilities extremely exciting.”
