Academy of Ancient Music secures regular public funding for first time

The Academy of Ancient Music has secured regular public funding for the first time in its 37-year history. The orchestra will receive over £500,000 between 2012 and 2015 as part of Arts Council England’s national portfolio.

Michael Garvey, AAM Chief Executive, commented “we are delighted at this expression of confidence in the Academy of Ancient Music’s world-class artistic excellence, and in the quality and ambition of the orchestra’s plans for the future. Our many achievements to date have been made possible by individual donors and private funders who believe in our work and support us generously. Alongside the ongoing support of our many existing friends, funding from Arts Council England will enable us to achieve even greater things up to and beyond our 40th anniversary”.

He continued “Arts Council funding continues to be a vital part of the cultural sector’s financial ecology. We are delighted by this visionary decision and look forward to working with Arts Council England on the delivery of their national priorities over the coming years.”

Helen Lax, Regional Director, East at Arts Council England, commented “The Academy of Ancient Music has long been a world-class period instrument orchestra with a global profile and a strong presence in the East of England. We are pleased to back the orchestra’s ambitious plans and we are delighted to welcome it into the national portfolio”.
