AAM performs Handel arias to great acclaim

Audiences in London and Cambridge were treated to a rare UK appearance from the Canadian duo Bernard Labadie and Karina Gauvin when they performed Handel with the AAM this week.

The concerts, at Wigmore Hall in London and West Road Concert Hall in Cambridge, combined Handel's tragic arias with the elegant dance interludes written for Ariodante, Alcina and Rodrigo. Soprano Karina Gauvin was called upon to conjure up a number of different guises, from the joy of 'Tornami a vagheggiar' from Alcina to the heart-wrenching 'Lascia ch'io pianga' from Rinaldo.

Before the concert, conductor Bernard Labadie gave a pre-concert talk, which will shortly be available for download from iTunes.
