AAMplify masterclasses and workshops
On 25 January the AAM teamed up with the University of Cambridge's Faculty of Music for a day of workshops and masterclasses, coaching some of the finest musicians of the future as part of our AAMplify scheme. The result? In the words of one student, "the best experience of my musical life".
In the morning, cellist Steven Isserlis gave masterclasses to a string trio, string quartet and piano quintet made up of members of the University's Instrumental Award Scheme.
Then in the afternoon the stage got a bit more crowded as Richard Egarr and members of the AAM sat side-by-side with students to explore JS Bach's Orchestral Suite No.1. One of the best moments of the day was when an AAM violinist swapped instruments with the student next to him, demonstrating the true spirit of collaboration and shared experience which characterised the day.
The day, which was entirely funded through the generosity of an anonymous donor, is the latest development in our strong relationship with the University of Cambridge (where we are Orchestra-in-Residence). As Michael Garvey, the AAM's Chief Executive, put it: "Long may this continue — on past our 40th anniversary and into the Future of Ancient Music."
