About this concert

Stephen Layton and the Holst Singers continue their epic journey through Handel’s oratorios with the fourth concert in their series. A rollercoaster ride of triumph, terror, inner turmoil and divine intervention, Jephtha promises to be an evening of drama featuring some of Handel’s finest music.

Handel’s last (and, many say, best) oratorio tells the story of the Israelite general who comes to regret a rash vow made to God. Despite being composed at a time of old age and failing eyesight, it is a work of immense dramatic power and searching character portrayal.
