About this concert
About this concert
When the nation celebrated in the eighteenth century, it called on Handel to provide the soundtrack. The Music for the Royal Fireworks was written for a public display in Green Park to mark the end of European war; the Coronation Anthems were composed for George II and are still performed at royal occasions today; and the Water Music accompanied George I during a Thames Pageant in 1717. All of these, together with two famous choruses from Messiah, course with instantly recognisable and thrilling tunes.
What better way to celebrate a new chapter in the AAM’s history? The London performance launches the AAM as Associate Ensemble at the Barbican Centre, concluding a major European tour which includes an appearance as part of Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Thames Pageant.
These concerts feature the Choir of the AAM, winner of ‘Choir of the Year’ at the Beijing Classical Elites following a performance of Messiah.
"Fans of Richard Egarr and the AAM know the extent to which Handel's music sparkles and breathes under their fingertips"
